Since the founding of the club in 1981, hundreds of youth soccer players have played with the Southwest United crest emblazoned on their chests. Some have continued on to achieve outstanding success in the sport, playing for college and university teams, the Canadian National team, North American Soccer League teams, Major Soccer League teams, and in international leagues all over the world. Below are some of the Southwest United Alumni who began their soccer journey on fields in a medium sized city in northern Alberta and have continued it on to the world stage.

Matthew King played for SWU’s 1996 and 1997 boys teams as a youth before joining the FC Edmonton Academy in 2012. He played with FC Edmonton for three years and was captain in his final year. He then played two years at Grand Canyon University and two years at Valparaiso University, both NCAA Division 1 programs. After graduating from University, Matthew played two seasons as a pro in Sweden.
